Undersized riprap simply washes out during the next heavy rain. Sizing is driven by expected flow velocity, and getting it wrong defeats the purpose of installing it at all.
Can riprap be combined with other erosion methods?
Often yes, riprap at high-flow points combined with vegetation or matting on gentler slopes is common.
How do I know if my existing erosion control is failing?
Visible soil movement, undercut banks, or sediment buildup downstream are all signs worth a site evaluation.
